_In 2011 we had more than 100,000 unique visitors to our website. To ring in the new year, we have been working hard on updating our site to include the best resources on mental illnesses and addictions. As we prepare to celebrate the holidays and ring in the new year, we reflect back on our many accomplishments and blessings of this past year.
_October 2011 was New York's first ever Behavioral Health Recognition Month. We celebrated at the Intrepid Sea Air & Space Museum with inspiring and informative speakers and lots of incredible performers. Over the next several weeks we will bringing you a special 6 part TV series with highlights from the speakers and performers. The Spotlight On Behavioral Health Recognition Month will be airing on our 5 channels throughout New York City and Long Island. The full TV schedule for your area is now available online. Additionally, if you want to watch any specific speaker or performer from the event, all of the videos are also available in a special YouTube Playlist. Starting in January 2012, Talk Therapy TV will be broadcasting on Queens Public Television (QPTV) in new and improved time slots. We will be airing every Thursday at 7:00 PM on Channel 35 (Prime Time) with a rerun on Friday at 4:00 PM on Channel 35. We'll be starting of the year with a special series of speakers and performers from the 2011 Behavioral Health Recognition Month Celebration so be sure to tune in. _In honor of Veterans Day, we have released a new veterans mental health resources web-page. The resources include videos on topics like, mental illness warning signs and symptoms, women veterans, SAMHSA and Military Families, Peer Support for Veterans, Iraq/Afghanistan Vs. Other Veterans, and many more. Additionally, there are several links to other excellent online resources for veterans mental health. This Veterans Day let's focus on how we can truly help and support our veterans. Please share the resource page and spread the message of hope and recovery for all of our vets. Starting October 5, unsuspecting Cablevision subscribers throughout Nassau County will find behavioral health television programming in their homes every Wednesday at 11:30 AM. That's right, we've just expanded our broadcast of Talk Therapy TV to a brand new TV station and will be reaching thousands of more people every single week with our message of awareness, treatment and recovery. As part of the Behavioral Health Recognition Month Celebration, Talk Therapy TV will be offering free workshops on a range of topics related to the latest developments in mental illness and addictions treatment. You can learn about the Trauma Resiliency Model, advances in dual-diagnosis treatment, multicultural competency, and vocational rehabilitation and recovery. The workshops are open to the public and are suitable for professionals and laymen. CASAC credits are being offered to those who may be interested. Online registration is required to attend these limited space workshops. As a Planning Partner of National Recovery Month, Talk Therapy TV joined SAMHSA and the other Planning Partners on September 8 at the National Press Club in Washington DC for the official kickoff of National Recovery Month. Speakers included SAMHSA Administrator Pam Hyde, White House Office of National Drug Control Policy Director Gil Kerlikowski, CSAT Director Dr. Westley Clark, and many others. Additionally, data from the 2010 SAMHSA National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) was released for the first time. To learn more about those findings click here. On Wednesday, August 24, Talk Therapy TV will travel to Paramount Studios in Hollywood to join the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) in presenting the Voice Awards. These awards honor consumer/peer leaders in recovery from mental and substance use disorders who have successfully advocated for the rights of trauma survivors and promoted the importance of trauma-informed care, as well as the writers and producers of entertainment programming that highlights stories of resilience, courage, and recovery. We’ll celebrate Voice Award-winning individuals, community leaders, and productions that include "The Fighter," "The King’s Speech," “Glee,” “Harry’s Law,” “Private Practice,” and “Treme.” Talk Therapy TV is proud to be a Program Partner in the Voice Awards and congratulates all of this year's awardees on a job well done. | NEWS & EVENTS
